We do innovative acting work- built on the work of the greats- as well as our original work from neuroscience, spirituality, and trauma therapy.

We are passionate, purposeful, and playful actors who strive to deliver truly cathartic work- performances that leave the audience moved, awakened, and liberated through our craft of experiencing- sharing the beauty and joy of our humanity with our audience and, ultimately, the world.

We are a NYC-style Acting Studio (world-class artists and work) with a North Bay Heart (embrace our Woo-Woo) and we are building a one-of-a-kind artistic community here in the North Bay.

We are here to move humanity to our deepest levels; while also leaving us to live freer, fuller lives.

Meet our team

Founder @ Cathartic Eye, Coach & Teacher

Marcus is a teacher, coach, and complementary therapist who has been acting, teaching, and directing for over 20 years across the country, including 12 years in New York City where he taught and coached professional actors.

Marcus has had 20+ years on stage and screen including Tony-Award-winning regional theaters, off-Broadway, TV, and films. He was honored as a finalist for membership at the Actors’ Studio NYC, one of the leading acting institutions in the world, where he studied with Estelle Parsons and Ellen Burstyn.

He earned a degree in Acting Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and continued to study with some of the most brilliant figures in modern acting: Uta Hagen, Eric Morris, Billie Whitelaw, Mary Overlie, Steven Dietz, Jonathan Miller, Tim Miller, Anthony Vincent Bova, and Reggie Montgomery. He has studied and worked with the Actors’ Studio, Eric Morris System, Denver Center, Guthrie Theater, Resident Ensemble Players, Mary Overlie & Viewpoints, Berkeley Rep, American Conservatory Theater, and the EMPR method with Manna Abraham.

He has founded and served as artistic director of Yitzhak Theater & Film Project and Savage Honesty- theater and film companies, devoted to bringing the stories of marginalized communities to center stage. He directed, designed, acted, wrote, and led the company through several sold-out seasons and was honored for his award-winning film - Syntonism, (co-created with Paul Vogelman.) As artistic director, he developed a new non-hierarchical collaborative approach to making experiential art (theater and film) which is a new approach to collaborative art making.

He recently founded 'Cathartic Eye Studio' in Marin County to serve as the premiere destination for actors to work, expand, and develop in Northern California. CES is bringing together an eclectic background of some of the most innovative work in acting, from across the world, while now sharing his original work, processes, and techniques with actors.

Jenni Kim-Etimos grew up in the North Bay and discovered her love for performing arts at a very young age. She spent her formative years acting, singing, playing piano, songwriting, and dancing. Jenni earned a BA in Communications from UC San Diego and a teaching credential from Sonoma State. She taught middle and high school English for five years, during which she also got married and had two children. Soon enough, Jenni realized (with the help of an amazing therapist) what she was missing in her life.

Jenni left teaching in 2017 to fall in love with performing once again. She got herself back into acting classes and has been a working actor in the Bay Area for the past few years. Jenni has worked on-screen and in voiceover for commercials, film and television. In Spring 2023, Jenni returned to the stage in 6th Street Playhouse’s Smart People, where she played Ginny Yang, opposite Marcus Peterson-Spain. Jenni is so incredibly excited to join Cathartic Eye Studio. With her first-hand experience working with and learning from Marcus, she fully believes in the vision he has for this group.
